Backstory

We picked up the 4 ft. Animated mickey Mouse from Home Depot during the 2024 Christmas season and immediately began thinking of how to integrate him into the light show on our house. Throughout this whole project I learned a lot about different electronic components and how they function in FPP and xLights. The final product is better than we could have hoped for. Now to the good stuff:

  1. Disassemble the Head
    Remove the screws from the back of the head. There is approximately 10 screws. Carefully separate the front face from the back. Once inside, locate the control board that connects the head movement servos to the main control board. The connectors will be labeled CH1, CH2 and CH3(fig.1)

    Disconnect the three servo JST-XH connectors and leave the labels in place for later.

Setup Twinkly Lights in xLights

Step 1

Install the Twinkly Mobile App and map the lights following the directions in the app.

Step 2

Download and install Twinkly ArtNet software from Artnet2Twinkly.com . Install the software.

Step 3

Once installed, open the program and click the + in the upper left hand corner, this will search for the twinkly lights.

Step 4

In the top left you will see your model show up. Click on it to highlight and you model will show in the preview screen on the right.

Step 5

From here you can now click Export Layout as xLights Model. If you have multiple sets of Twinkly Lights you can repeat the process.

Step 6

Open xLights and go to the Layout screen.

Import you models in xLights.
